Toesies of the Month - June 2010

June is going to be an intense month.

School year is ending, needing to find some direction in my life, social engagements, belly dance classes.  I feel like June has already come and gone.  Yet, somehow, I've managed to sneak in some time to get a well-deserved pedicure.

So, back in October, I wrote about the decor of nail salons, and mainly about the interesting stock photographs they have featuring a variety of nails holding objects.  More specifically, I laughed about the randomness of one particular photo that featured a pair of nicely manicured hands holding a tiny bicycle.

I now present to you that photo.
Tiny bicycle!
I mean...what?  I still don't get it!  I mean, I understand the idea of holding something to display the nails, but why a small bicycle?  Why?

Even funnier is the fact that this is a completely different nail salon altogether.  This photo is apparently an up and coming image that everyone needs to see.

In other news, I actually did get a pedicure.

It's such a crazy color!  I love it!  Seriously, it matches a lot of my clothes and accessories.  Also, I specifically asked for a design that didn't have flowers, though I rarely direct the nail technicians.  But, I figured, I should enjoy my toes this month.

I've talked a lot about being stressed, and how getting my monthly pedicure is a reminder to myself to stay grounded.  What better way to do so than with my power color.

City Sights - Spring Cleaning

Man...I've been trying really hard to hold off on prematurely posting this.  I immediately snapped a picture of these sights.  In the first picture, I felt like I might have been the only one who thought it strange.  In the second picture, I wasn't alone, so I was able to share the strangeness of it all.

March 2010
Commonwealth Ave and Kelton St, Brighton, MA
Why yes, that is a chair among those bicycles.
I liked imagining that one of the folks with helmets would ride the chair down the hill.

The type above says, "At yard sale ex. Kitchen ware, clothing, toys, blankets, small fans, small electronics"
I like that I have such a wide variety of options to choose from at this yard sale.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to check it out, but this ad was really tempting me.

City Sights - Strange Choices

I realized that people make some strange choices. And some of those choices need to be explored a little.  So I take pictures, and it's high time I shared them with others.

Going along the first post of City Sights, these folks made some interesting decisions about how to get around the city.  Mainly, it's a question of their style...but it does make me question the function as well.

Oktoberfest 2007
She's taking "going green" to a whole new level!
I would be worried about getting the fur stuck in the gears, stopping the pedals, and flipping the bike over.
...but that would probably only ever happen to me...

Summer 2009

Okay...I don't know if you can really see it...
But this car has this strange holographic purpley-pinky-rainbowy glaze over it!!!
I first noticed the car maybe 2 years ago, and I literally stopped walking and took off my sunglasses just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

I don't know how this person didn't get made fun of...
They're clearly trying to be all hardcore and tough....but the color choice just isn't helping...
But I must say that it's a show-stopper of some sort or another.

City Sights - Modes of Transportation

Just wanting to share random sights around Boston.

Here's two that I've been excited about sharing:

Going down Commonwealth Ave. towards Boston University.  April 25, 2009.
Goodness knows where they were going, but the poor guy was pedaling so hard,
probably because her shoes were so freakin' heavy!
At one point, they reached a stop light.  She proceeded to get off the bike and cross the street, while the bike waited for the light.  The light turned green, he caught up to her, and she hopped right back on.

Why, yes...that is a minivan with spinners.
Parked in the Allston Stop & Shop lot.  November 25, 2009.
I really don't have anything to say about this one...

Not Cool, Driver...Not Cool...

As I'm biking home today from a non-profit seminar, I almost get side-swiped by a crazy driver.

The signal was of a green arrow going straight and going to the right.  But, as I keep biking straight on, this driver proceeds to right hook me.  I felt his side view mirror graze my arm, and I was literally pushed to the side as he made his slow right turn.

I wasn't hurt.  My bike wasn't hurt.

I was in absolute disbelief.  Even as he proceeded to look back at me as he drove away.  Absolute disbelief.
